security center issues

Hi out there.
I'm having some problems with the Security Center, specifically with the 'Malware Protection' Area. Both, Virus protection and Spyware protection are not detected by the Security Center.
Even though I've installed one of the recommended anti-virus programs by Microsoft (EZ Antivirus) and Windows Defender is running, they appear as off. I've been trying some workarounds without any joy. Is there any known issue regarding this?

On the individual properties of each, such as Antivirus - just select "I have an antivirus that I will monitor myself" - this should do it :o)
